PAIGE ROWLAND INTERVIEW : TIM STOREY ONLINE - REPRINT ( http://www.timstorey.org/ )
TSO : Paige, where did you grow up ? Paige : Greenwood, South Carolina was where I was born and raised. I stayed until I was 16, and then I moved to Japan to model. I went to Japan three different times in my life to model.
TSO : How did you get started in acting ? Paige : Modeling opened up the door and taught me how to move in front of the camera. I played Goldilocks when I was 5 years old, and I knew then (that I wanted to act). While modeling in New York, I took an acting class. That's really how I got started. I moved to California. I knew I had to be there. I took some acting classes and was in plays for 2 years. Then I got an agent and got some bit parts. One thing led to another, and now I'm here.
TSO : How did you land your job on All My Children ? Paige : I was living in California and didn't want to move to New York. All My Children was casting for a new character, and I got a call to audition for it. I declined the first audition. Then my managers and agents said to take another look at it. So I took a new look and I liked the character. I auditioned for it and then flew to New York for a screen test. I had a great time auditioning. They called me a couple of days later and told me that I had the part. I was in shock. I was in debt then and had no money. I literally went from famine to feast overnight.
TSO : Has the Hollywood Bible Study helped to change your life ? Paige : Immensely. First, to be in a room with other entertainers that are like-minded and trying to use their gifts God has given them is amazing. We take such a beating in this industry, that it is so nice to have a safe haven to go to. No matter what's going on in your life, you come and get encouraged. You get picked up. I've felt my spirituality grow, and I use what I learn there in my everyday life. I have also had other Christians on the set drawn to me.
TSO : Paige, what do you do when you have a setback ? Paige : No matter how badly I feel, I drop to my knees and sit at God's feet. I may not feel strong, fervent prayers, but I know I have to go back to the Refuge, where I started. I open up the Psalms and get a cleansing from that. It is the only thing that works, and that helps. I have friends, but I don't need to hear many voices. I need to hear the Voice.
TSO : What do you find is the biggest misconception about actors and actresses ? Paige : One is that we're not intelligent people. Another is that we are the characters we play. They may be akin to you, but they are not you. From a Christian standpoint, because of being on a soap opera, ( people think) we must be backslidden and not following God.
TSO : How do you spend your leisure time ? Paige : I like to go to the movies. Sometimes I'll rent a car and drive to Connecticut (because I miss driving). I read; write poetry, scripts, and children's stories; and I work out.
TSO : What is the most satisfying thing about your life ? Paige : Aside from being an employed actress and being debt-free, God-Jesus Christ, being the central part of my life, is the most satisfying thing; especially because I'm single and in a city far away from home and friends.
TSO : What is the next move for Paige Rowland ? Paige : At the end of my contract with All My Children, I want to move back to California to finish and produce the screen play that I'm working on and get it put up on it's feet and going. |
